Alex Hormozi's IG History & the Power of Books
I just scrolled through Alex Hormozi’s whole Instagram profile.
No, not to stalk him or anything like that.
He mentioned something in a few videos, and I had to find it.
Alex talked about how his first books went viral just off a couple social media posts, when he had a small following.
This piqued my interest, because I help people write books, and I’m an author myself.
I knew there would be gold at the bottom of Alex’s Instagram profile — so I scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled, until I saw this!
That’s the "announcement post” of his first book, Gym Launch Secrets.
To this day it still only has 337 likes. So that lets you know a key lesson: everything starts small.
He posted a screenshot of the book a month later and it still only had 17 reviews on Amazon.
Again, this is not overnight success. We’re talking about years of work here.
By the way, Gym Launch Secrets has 217 reviews now and its average is 4.7/5. That’s excellent. But even with a great book, it can be a slow burn to build momentum.
That leads us to Alex’s second book, $100M Offers.
This is the book that officially put him on the map. It’s what made me start paying attention, because my ex-boss, friend and mentor Anik Singal posted this on Facebook.
Based on that post, I knew Alex’s book had to be good.
So I checked it out, and yes, $100M Offers is a great book. I’ve read it three times.
Now back to Alex’s Instagram.
Here’s how he “launched” $100M Offers.
After that post, $100M Offers went “book viral” (the best kind of viral imo).
Why? Because it’s so good that people shared it, and keep sharing it.
Note that Alex’s initial post about $100M Offers was about one month before he started posting regularly on social media.
That means his book played an important part in his rise to popularity online. I know that’s how I came across him.
It’s not the only part of course. Look at his consistency, quality content, business experience, etc.
However, it does seem like the book’s success…
Added to the momentum of his content
Inspired him to keep going
Established him as THE expert when it comes to offer creation
Alex, if you’re reading this, can you confirm those? 🤓
What Makes $100M Offers Sharable?
There’s a reason why $100M Offers exploded, mostly based on word of mouth.
It’s not your average book.
Most books are:
Full of fluff
Poorly written
Mostly hype, with little to no practical advice
$100M Offers is packed with value and quality.
Here’s a few reasons why. It’s…
Grounded in Alex’s personal experience
Practical (everyone can implement at least some of it)
Simple and straightforward
Conceptual when needed (every concept bridges with implementation)
Engaging and relatable (because of great personal stories)
Concise (no unnecessary fluff or hype)
$100M Offers is a breath of fresh air compared to most business (and personal development) books.
It has enough storytelling to make Alex relatable and trustworthy, but the whole book isn’t just about him.
It has enough concepts and big ideas to satisfy your creative mind, while still remaining grounded and practical.
It has focused, tactical steps to implement, without being some robotic formula to copy/paste.
Alex pulled off a great balance with $100M Offers.
Another X Factor
There is one more thing that makes $100M Offers so sharable…
The ask.
Halfway through the book, Alex invites the reader to review and share it — but does it in a genius way.
There’s a tiny chapter called “Free Goodwill.”
In it, he invites you to “help someone you don’t know” by leaving a review for the book. That’s an ingenious way of asking, because it’s unique, and true!
With this frame of spreading goodwill, he primes you to leave a review and share the book with people you think would benefit from it.
This invitation adds to the shareability. But it only works because the book is great. If you used the same words Alex did, with a terrible book, it wouldn’t work.
Like with everything, you need a solid foundation first.
Your Takeaways
Let’s sum everything up here, so you can apply this.
Books are great brand builders
Everyone starts somewhere (be consistent)
Share your wisdom in your unique way
Do everything with excellence
Create your content and books with your people in mind (so they’re more likely to share it)
Boost shareability by asking in a creative, authentic way.
Books have a certain magic to them.
They’re the foundation of education, the ultimate brand builder, a means to share wisdom, and a rite of passage to write.
Thank you, Alex Hormozi, for choosing to share your experience and wisdom. Many, many people have benefitted from it.
Much love,
Stephen Parato
Update: As I was writing this, Alex announced that his next book, $100M Leads, is coming out soon. Gotta love the synchronicities!
