I Wrote a Whole Book This Weekend: Here's 4 Lessons From It
I wrote a book this weekend.
(well, the first draft)
And here are 4 big lessons I learned from it.
1: Want more opportunities? ASK.
I emailed the Saratoga Arms hotel about my challenge to write a book in a weekend, and they gladly hosted me for free.
Note: Saratoga Arms is a special place. They set me up with an essential oil diffuser, notepads, a white noise machine, bedtime affirmations, etc. All of that, plus how supportive the staff was, helped a lot.
Have the courage to ask for things, from the heart. You never know what it could lead to.
2: You’re more capable than you think.
Challenge yourself more often. You’ll dig into your inner strength and surprise yourself with what you can do.
I never thought I could write almost 19,000 words in less than 48 hours… until I did it.
I also got into deep levels of flow state for a looong time.
Another unexpected benefit was that it leveled up my decision-making ability. Since I didn’t have time to overthink everything, I trusted my intuition to make decisions on the spot (and it worked out well).
3: Self-sabotage is everywhere.
You don’t realize how much you self-sabotage until you fully commit to something.
When you challenge yourself, all of your self-sabotaging patterns come to the forefront.
To write the first draft of my book in <48 hours, I worked through:
Fear of failure
Fear of what others think
Feeling not good enough
Self-doubt
Perfectionism
Distractions
If you expect them though, all it takes is a little awareness for them to dissolve.
In the light of your awareness, especially when you’re committed to a goal, you can face any self-sabotage and move right through it.
4: It’s all about the inner game.
When you master your mind, you can do anything.
If you get honest with yourself, the things that are really blocking you from achieving your goals are your inner blocks (self-sabotage).
Free Live Masterclass (January 31)
To help you overcome self-sabotage with writing, I’m hosting a live masterclass on the inner game of writing a book.
I’ve noticed that people’s biggest block to writing a book isn’t lack of information, but their own self-sabotage (fears, doubts, limiting beliefs, etc).
Click the image below to learn more and register for the masterclass.
So many good things come your way when you’re willing to commit, ask for help and face your self-sabotaging patterns head on.
I have a lot more to share about my experience this weekend too. This is just the first round of my self-reflection.
Stay tuned.
With gratitude,
Stephen Parato
