Here’s a good gauge of your ability to handle stress.
Can you stay relaxed while working?
This has always been a challenge for me.
Like most people, the virtue of “hard work” was instilled within me from an early age.
Because of this, I developed a subconscious pattern of creating pressure and stress for myself whenever I “have to get something done.”
==PATTERN INTERRUPT==
I’m writing this differently.
How?
I got myself into a relaxed state before I began writing.
I’m continuously allowing my body to relax as these words flow.
It’s a completely different way of taking action (well, more like allowing action).
Getting things done doesn’t need to be synonymous with stress.
We get so used to it that we don’t see it. You don’t realize how stressed out you get while doing something until you do it relaxed.
It’s happening with me here. Writing this from a semi-relaxed state makes me aware that I usually hold a bit more tension when I write.
That’s why I call this Relaxation Calibrated Writing.
And it doesn’t just apply to writing. You can apply this to any activity.
Why do this?
The ability to relax into action unlocks so many things:
Flow state
Peak performance
Enhanced creativity
More inspiration
Expanded awareness
Being more in tune with yourself and your intuition
When I apply Relaxation Calibrated Writing, the experience of writing is qualitatively different.
It’s not a grind.
It’s not stressful.
I don’t put pressure on myself.
I don’t get caught up in over-analysis.
Yet somehow, the writing comes out better.
It’s like with sports or martial arts. The amateur brings anger and anxiety into the match, and loses. The master remains cool and calm, and wins.
How to do it?
The process of Relaxation Calibrated Writing is simple.
Here’s what it looks like:
Set the intention to take relaxed action
Relax your body (you can do it one body part at a time or all at once, whatever you prefer)
Take a few deeps breaths
Close your eyes for a few seconds (while still breathing deeply)
Relax your body even more
Open your eyes and maintain this state of relaxation in action
You know you’re ready when you feel the signs of being in a relaxed meditative state.
Note: This could take anywhere from a few seconds to 1-2 minutes. It depends on how easily you can drop into a state of relaxation.
Practice recognizing what a relaxed, meditative state feels like to you. Notice the associated sensations. This will be your signal that you’re calibrated.
For me, it feels like this:
My jaw is relaxed
I feel slight tingles in my hands and feet
I feel an electromagnetic field around the frontal lobe of my brain
When I relax, breathe and feel those signs, that’s when I know I’m ready.
Then I just let the writing flow.
That’s key: let the writing flow.
When you do Relaxation Calibrated Writing, you tap into the wisdom of your body and your intuition. Because of that, you just need to allow the words to flow.
No need to over-analyze. No need to second guess. Trust the streaming wisdom of your intuition. Remember, you can always edit after.
My Invitation to You
My invitation to you is to try doing Relaxation Calibrated Writing every time you write.
Even if it’s something as simple as a text or an email, try it.
The more you practice, the more you’ll be able to relax into a flow state that channels the wisdom of your soul.
And you can apply this to any activity.
Relax into action.
You don’t need to stress yourself out to get things done.
Remember that.
Much Love,
Stephen Parato
